Drug War Comes To Phillips
by DH Michon
Police Chief David Sonntag, of Phillips, has earned 17 swastikas to notch into his gun by arresting 17 Price County residents for various drug charges with more arrests promised. Sonntag took over the Chief’s job in 2004 when he says he immediately began the information which is beginning to take folks down. What an auspicious day that was for authoritarian government in rural Wisconsin.
Sonntag and his stormtroopers weren’t the only cops involved. Price County sheriffs police acting under NORDEG (The North-Central Drug Enforcement Group). These vigilante roaming police are accountable to only themselves and have always been one of the Drug War’s most pernicious results, not to mention a drain on tax dollars. The entire country is awash with these “groups.” They are always acutely aware of all the money they eat-up and so they are always on the lookout for private property they can call “drug proceeds” and sieze for their own use and continued existence. We can assume it’s a much more interesting workday playing James Bond than it is to sit on a highway for hours waiting for the first fisherman with a nice boat to speed by.
