Date: November 22, 2008
In recent weeks, we have hit a number of milestones. Certainly, milestones were reached in the Tuesday, November 4, 2008 election. We can finally hope that our new Drug Czar will be the first to treat national drug policy as a health issue. As always, our archives will document the news as it is reported in a user-friendly and searchable format.
The Media Awareness Project's (MAP) DrugNews Archive www.drugnews.org/ hit its own milestone on Friday, November 7, 2008. With the addition of this article, 'Pot Activist Loses Bid To Have Charges Stayed,' www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v08/n1011/a01.html With it, the archive topped 200,000 newspaper, magazine, and Web clippings on all aspects of drug policy. The archive's expanding size reflects its increasing value as a prime resource concerning the trends behind this important social issue.
On November 14, 2008, our DrugSense Weekly hit a milestone 575 issues: drugsense.org/nl/show_dsw.php?the_file=2008/ds08.n575. This summary of drug policy developments based on actual news articles has been published for 575 consecutive weeks.
But milestones are not all that unusual for MAP. Here are more of our milestones:
- October 5, 1998 - 500 published letters-to-the-editor worth $500,000 in advertising value: www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v98/n874/a06.html
- August 15, 1999 - 25,000 articles and 2,129 PUB LTEs ($2.1 million in advertising value): www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v99/n848/a03.html
- March 23, 2003 - 100,000 articles: www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v03/n438/a06.html. Over 50 organizations and individuals replied with congratulations.
